To Jump or Not to Jump

 And it’s complicated…

What society sees…

Warrior + adrenaline = BODY-Soul-Mind
These individuals wear happiness on their sleeves.

What society sees…

Become the Warrior + dopamine = SOUL-Body-Mind
These individuals wear happiness on the inside.
(And that’s OK!)

Happiness vs. Well-being
Studies such as “The Association between Well-being and the COMT Gene: Dispositional Gratitude and Forgiveness as Mediators” (Journal of Psychiatry Research) and "The Relationship Between Happiness and Well-being" by Dr. Carry Cooper and Dr. Theo Theobald explain that well-being reflects a state of consistent contentment. In contrast, happiness is the joy of fulfillment, a transient state of being.

“Winning a tournament makes me happy… for about five minutes
and then you have to do a bunch of other things…”
-Scottie Scheffler

While Scottie Scheffler may feel "happy” for a few minutes, he also understands that “happiness” is not his ultimate goal. Aristotle (along with Socrates, Plato, Seneca, Epictetus, Marcus Aurelius, Leonardo da Vinci, and Thomas Jefferson… to name just a few among thousands) agrees with Scottie Scheffler. These profound thinkers contend that “happiness” is a small part of a larger picture, without getting lost in the “paradoxical pursuit of happiness” through constant effort to feel happy.

“The ‘arrival fallacy’ is the false belief that achieving a specific goal will bring lasting happiness, when in reality, the satisfaction is often temporary and quickly replaced by the pursuit of a new goal as happiness expected from the ‘arrival’ fades.”
